The ideal water temperature

When washing a wool sweater, the water temperature is very important. Always use cold or lukewarm water, as hot water can shrink the fibres. A temperature between 30°C and 40°C is ideal for maintaining the quality of the wool.

Choosing the right detergent

Use a special detergent for wool or a mild liquid detergent . This helps protect the fibers and prevents them from drying out or getting damaged. To make the sweater smell even better, a few drops of laundry perfume is a good solution.

Washing your wool sweater

There are several methods to wash your wool sweater:

  • Hand wash : Fill a basin with cold or lukewarm water and add the detergent. Carefully immerse the sweater and move it gently back and forth. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Machine wash : Choose a wool program on your washing machine. Make sure to place the sweater in a laundry bag to minimize friction. Add the detergent and laundry perfume in the correct compartments .

Drying your wool sweater

Wool sweaters should definitely not be put in the dryer. You will then get a sweater in a smaller size… After washing, it is important not to wring your wool sweater. Lay the sweater flat on a clean towel and carefully roll up the towel to remove excess water. Then you can lay the sweater flat on a dry towel again to dry.

Why does my wool sweater smell after washing?

If wool dries too slowly, it will definitely stink. Moisture almost always causes the nasty smell in wool. So make sure the sweater can dry in a well-ventilated space, but preferably outside! Of course, it also helps to add a cap of laundry perfume during the wash.
