To clean the inside of your leather jacket, follow these steps:
Before you start cleaning, carefully turn the leather jacket inside out. This prevents the leather itself from coming into contact with water or soap, which could damage the leather. So you are mainly focusing on the inner lining of the jacket, where sweat, dirt and stains often accumulate. This is the best way to clean the inside without risking the leather.
Now that you’ve turned your jacket inside out, it’s time to make some soapy water. Mix four cups of warm water with one tablespoon of mild detergent (preferably one without harsh chemicals) . Stir the mixture well until you have a slightly sudsy solution. The warm water will help loosen the dirt and oils, while the detergent will clean them without damaging the fabric.
Take a soft sponge or cloth and soak it in the soapy water. Gently rub the inner lining of the jacket, paying special attention to the areas around the armpits and collar, where sweat and odor tend to accumulate. Be careful with the pressure you apply so that you don’t damage the lining. The goal is to remove the stains and make the lining fresh again.
Once you have thoroughly washed the inner lining, rinse the sponge thoroughly under cold water to remove any soap residue. Then fill a bowl with just warm water and use the clean sponge to blot the soap from the lining. This will ensure that no soap residue is left behind, which could damage the material or leave a sticky feeling.
Once you have finished cleaning the inner lining, let the leather jacket dry completely inside out. It is important not to dry the jacket in direct sunlight or near a heater, as this can dry out the leather and cause it to crack. Let the jacket dry in a well-ventilated place, preferably in the shade. Make sure not to wring or stretch the jacket too much while drying. Want to add a nice scent to the jacket after drying? Then use the textile spray from The Laundry Story .
