An air fryer is a kitchen tool that allows you to prepare your dishes in a healthier way. Whether you are baking fries, roasting vegetables or even making a delicious dessert, the air fryer does it all. But just like any other kitchen appliance, you need to clean the air fryer to keep it in good condition. Dirt, grease and food residue can build up and affect the performance of your air fryer. In this blog, you will learn how to thoroughly clean your air fryer so that it lasts longer and stays hygienic!

Cleaning the air fryer basket

The air fryer basket comes into contact with the food the most and can get dirty quickly. Regular cleaning is essential to remove built-up grease and food residue and prevent it from affecting your next meal. Here are two handy methods to clean your air fryer basket.

Dishwashing liquid

One of the easiest ways to clean your air fryer basket is to use warm water and dish soap. Remove the basket from the air fryer and soak it in warm water and a few drops of dish soap. Let it soak for about 15 minutes to loosen stubborn grease and grime. Then use a soft sponge or brush to remove the residue. Rinse the basket well with warm water and dry it before placing it back in the air fryer

Dishwasher tablet

For an even more intensive cleaning, you can use a dishwasher tablet. Fill the sink with hot water, place the airfryer basket in it, and add a dishwasher tablet. Let the basket soak for 30 minutes. This will not only help remove caked-on grease, but will also give a fresh scent. After soaking, use a sponge to scrub away any remaining residue. Rinse the basket thoroughly and let it dry.

Cleaning the heating element

An often forgotten part of the air fryer is the heating element. If you notice that your air fryer is not working as well anymore or there is a burnt smell coming out, the heating element may be dirty. Fortunately, there is a simple solution!

Lemon

Lemon is a natural degreaser and is ideal for removing grease and dirt from the heating element. Cut a lemon in half and rub the juice over the heating element. The acid in the lemon will break down the grease. Let the juice soak in for a few minutes before cleaning it with a soft cloth or sponge. Then rinse the element with a clean, damp cloth. The result? A fresh and clean heating element that works optimally again!

Cleaning a caked-on air fryer

Sometimes your air fryer may need some extra attention, especially if you accidentally burnt something or forgot to clean it after use. Cleaning a caked-on air fryer can be tricky, but with the right approach you can definitely do it.

For burnt-on residues, soak the basket in hot water and a generous amount of dishwashing liquid. Leave for at least 30 minutes to loosen the residues. Then use a soft brush to gently remove the burnt-on bits. Never use a wire brush or abrasive cleaners, as this can damage the non-stick coating.

If the dirt is really stubborn, you can also make a cleaning paste of baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the caked-on parts and let it sit for a few hours. Then you can easily wipe away the dirt with a sponge.
